A Day at the Dawg! Much of my 2006 Summer has been spent playing on the South Fork of the American River. I slowly graduated from just running the Coloma to Greenwood section to adding a run from Chili Bar on down and then finally running "The Gorge". Great fun and excellent opportunities to learn more about paddling and boat control. This year on rapid in particular has stood out above all others. Barking Dog. This rapid has one of the best surf waves on the river. Thanks to perseverance on my part and several opportunities to play I've been able to see some improvement on my surf skills.
My last run of the year took place in early November. We did a full day on the Coloma to Greenwood run with quite a bit of time at each of the play waves including Barking Dog.
