Two if by Sea
The van was all packed and full of my gear
Only one chore left and that was purchasing the beer!
I drove to the city admiring the view
Off to Pacifica to pickup you-know-who
We drove and we drove over miles of road
To meet up with Baskers with their boats by the load
We searched for a site to bed down for the night
For tomorrow we paddle on the ocean so bright
The food was plentiful so tender and good
My wetsuit got tighter barely fitting like it should
In the morning we entered the water so fine
The color so deep and so dark like a very fine wine
We paddled the ocean round rocks and quiet coves
The Baskers had come with the boats by the droves
We splished and we splashed with wild abandon
Most singles in boats and at least one big tandem
The water would boil through channel and cave
The paddlers would enter so many, so brave
That night round the fire we told of our tales
While revelers with torches surrounded the vale
Try the chicken, the beef, the fresh abalone
The pasta, the salad, the tasty macaroni
There were cookies and cakes and chocolate galore
To fill our hungry paddlers who cried “Let’s have more!”
In the end we lay wasted all feasted and fat
The smiles on our faces like Alice’s cat
Early next morning we rose feeling fuzzy inside
To gather our boats for a romp in the tide
The dawn was so pleasant so quite and free
We drove to Van Dam for another sortie
More gardens of rock with seaweed and foam
We wandered in boats traveling further to roam
As with all good things the weekend would end
With memories and pictures thanks to my wonderful friend
The weekend of September 26th, 7th and 8th, I paddled the Mendocino coastline with my good friend Sheila and the Bay Area Sea Kayakers.
We had great fun exploring sea caves, playing in the surging waters and eating wonderful meals by the campfire.
