To the Valley and Beyond!

The view of the Panamints as you arrive from Trona

So for the past couple of years I've had this thing about the desert.  A couple of trips to Death Valley, a trip to Southern Utah and several recent trips to Phoenix.  So for this years Northstar Ride calendar I proposed yet another trip to Death Valley.  Sounded like a good idea at the time (January) and thanks to the intense rainfall experienced in California this winter it was!

Now I could go on and on about how great the ride was, what wonderful roads we rode, the great food we had, the amazing campsite by the river we visited, the wonderful warm wind in the valley  in the early evening and all that but I think I'll just keep it short and sweet.

The ride was great!  I think the pictures will speak for themselves.  The only thing I'll expand upon is that we spent a fair amount of time checking out the hills around Wildrose and managed to find some really cool spots.  I highly recommend a visit to Eureka Mine and Aguereberry Point.  Another really cool spot that I wish I had spent more time exploring is the old mining town of Ballarat.  There's a very unique information stop there with one of the deserts typical characters selling sodas and other trivia out there in the middle of nowhere.  Charles Manson was holed up not too far away just prior to his capture by authorities.

So take a trip with Paula, Allan and I to Death Valley.  We ride from the San Francisco Bay Area down to Hollister, Highway 25, 198, 155, 178 and 190 to the valley.  Camp with us along the Kern River and down at Furnace Creek.  Enjoy the views from all over the park.
